it's all love!

“To whom much is given, much is required”  Luke 12:48

We LOVE Haverstraw and Rockland County!  HAAC is dedicated to serving people and making our community the best that it can be.  Throughout the year we educate, support, strengthen and uplift our Haverstraw family through ongoing community service projects.  If there is a need, we look for solutions and collaborate with the Rockland County community to make our family whole.  Check out a few of our projects.

BACKPACK GIVEAWAY

Prior to the start of each school year HAAC holds its annual backpack giveaway at the Haverstraw African American Memorial Park.  Backpacks filled with school supplies are provided to children and teens K-12 followed by a back to school barbecue.

COAT AND CLOTHING GIVEAWAY

Throughout the year, HAAC provides members of the community with clothing, food, hygiene supplies and more.

If you are in need or know of someone, please contact us.

THANKFUL THANKSGIVING

HAAC members and volunteers know that the holidays are a special time to spend with family and friends. However, this can also be a difficult time for some members of our community. Our extended family is important to us, so a sit down community meal is served with love to those who may be in need or just want to fellowship.  We also distribute hats, gloves and hygiene products.  Meals are delivered to those who may be unable to attend.

On October 3, 2020,  Haverstraw dedicated a historical marker that commemorates the first African church in the State of New York.  This church was built by free and enslaved African brickyard workers in 1846.

The Clinton Street corridor was renamed "HAAC WAY" in recognition of HAAC's dedication to uncovering the hidden history of African Americans in Haverstraw, and their contributions to Rockland County and New York State.

THE HAAC PLAYERS

The HAAC players are a group of talented members of the Haverstraw African American Connection who are dedicated to sharing history through music and arts.

SONGS  OF THE BRICKYARD, a musical dramatization, tells the story of the African American community of Haverstraw, NY from the 1800's to the present.  The play was first performed by the Players at ARTSWESTCHESTER in 2018 and again in Haverstraw as a Dinner Theater in 2019.

The HAAC players present at schools, community centers, the Annual Juneteenth celebration and for private functions.

Shoe Box Ministry

Every year HAAC packages and donates shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items. The shoeboxes are distributed locally and internationally to children in need.

PAST PROJECTS

  MASK DISTRIBUTION

To ensure the health and safety of our Haverstraw and Rockland County family, HAAC initially secured a supply of masks and hand sanitizer to give away to the most vulnerable populations at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.  We later partnered with County Executive Ed Day, the Rockland County Department of Health, and Human Rights Commission, who stepped up and provided thousands of additional face masks and hand sanitizer.  The supplies are being distributed throughout the county to those in need by way of local churches, community centers, organizations and individuals.

If you are in need of masks or sanitizer, please contact us .
